Atmanirbhar Bharat

Atmanirbhar Bharat, which translates to “self-reliant India,” was adopted and made famous by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the nation’s economic growth objectives. The idea is a catch-all for the Modi administration’s aspirations for India to participate more actively in the global economy and to improve its efficiency, competitiveness, and resilience.

Since 2014, Modi has referred to the phrase regarding national security, poverty, and digital India. Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-Reliant India Mission), which was mentioned at the 2020 announcement of India’s economic response to the COVID-19 epidemic, is credited for coining the word in Hindi.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Defence have all used the phrase since then in news releases, pronouncements, and policies. The word has also been used by the government in reference to the 2021 Union Budget and India’s new National Education Policy. Modi’s government has modified the idea from prior uses of the word in the Indian subcontinent.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme

  • The idea of the new India that the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has in mind is the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan or Self-Reliant India campaign. The Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan (Self-reliant India campaign) was launched by our PM on May 12, 2020, and a special economic and comprehensive package of INR 20 lakh crores – or 10% of India’s GDP – was declared to combat the COVID-19 epidemic in India.
  • Making the nation and its people autonomous and self-sufficient is the goal. AatmaNirbhar Bharat is supported by five pillars: economy, infrastructure, system, vibrant demography, and demand. He further described these pillars. Additional government reforms and enablers across seven sectors are announced by the finance minister as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan.
  • Supply Chain Changes for Agriculture, Rational Tax Systems, Simple & Clear Laws, Capable Human Resource, and Strong Financial System are just a few of the ambitious reforms the administration implemented.
  • AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’s main advantage is to assist India in rebuilding its economy and focusing on land, labour, liquidity, and regulations. Through this programme, the government has made an economic package available to support MSMEs, cottage industries, home industries, small-scale industries, and other businesses that employ fewer than 500 people.
  • Self-sufficient India does not entail isolation from the rest of the world, according to the administration. Atmanirbhar Bharat, however, has been compared by some to the Make in India campaign with new taglines like “Vocal for Local.” Some members of the opposition have mentioned how India has implemented policies and built businesses to become self-sufficient, such as SAIL for steel production, IITs for homegrown engineers, AIIMS for medical sciences, DRDO for defence research, HAL for aviation, ISRO for space, CCL NTPC, and GAIL for energy. These lawmakers have criticised the repackaged scheme’s purported promotional strategies. The “Fend for Yourself” Campaign, as the initiative was renamed, has also drawn criticism.

Conclusion

Many businesses are developing online digital payment systems as a result of the Government of India’s Digital India initiative. Paynearby, a digital initiative by Nearby Technologies, is one of such. A new business has begun offering cashless services to the public.

The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan guarantees that everyone would gain from its initiatives. To compete with the global supply chain, it seeks to be self-resilient. The package will help the underprivileged, migratory workers, and labourers from both organised and unorganised sectors.
