How HR Technology has changed the Workforce Management?

The advent of modern technology has brought about numerous changes in every aspect of life. The adoption of HR technology has been steadily increasing and got a massive push due to the pandemic. Naturally, as new technologies are incorporated, changes throughout organizations are observed. One of the most important and highly affected systems has been workforce management. Managers have had to change their style of HR management to complement the newer technologies that have replaced the traditional methods of workforce management. 

Today, newer technology has allowed the employees to work with just as much efficiency from the comfort of their homes. All operations have been made extremely efficient for both employees and employers. It has transformed HR to the point that activities which earlier required significant consideration can be accomplished without a thought today. For example, if a leader needed the performance metrics of an employee for evaluation purposes, they needed to contact the HR department first. The HR department would then pull up that information from their database, resulting in a lot of loss of time. Today, if a leader needs the performance metrics, they can simply log onto their HRMS software and pull up all the information they need.

Increasing efficiency and reducing the need for manual labor are the main goals of HR technology. So far, technology has excelled at accomplishing them. Following are some HR technologies that are changing workforce management:


Performance Analytics

Today it’s clear that traditional performance methods are no longer relevant in this digital age. New HR technologies and solutions come with features that can track and monitor the performance of individual employees in real-time. This has changed the way performance is evaluated and as a result, performance management has massively improved. Performance analytics offer the data on KPIs, OKRs, and KRAs in a visual manner that is easy to understand and provides an accurate picture at a glance. This has helped managers with better assessments and sound decision-making. They can now allocate resources more accurately to wherever they are needed such as training, onboarding or promotions. With performance analytics in hand, new hires can also be assessed more quickly and this makes the process of employee placement more efficient.


Employee Self-Service Portals

Managerial responsibilities reach far and include many things. Managing employee requests, concerns, and other personal issues is a responsibility of HR managers that will likely never change or go away. However, HR technology has made it less tedious through employee self-service portals. These are portals that can be accessed by the employees and many of the concerns and requests can be taken care of by the employees themselves. Thus reducing the need for managerial intervention. These portals provide the workforce with the ability to apply for leave requests, check their performance analytics, check the status of their pending requests, payroll, etc. 


Mobile Workforce Management

The most glaring challenge that comes with remote working is that of management. How can managers manage their workforce from far away? The answer is Mobile Workforce Management tools or MWM tools. These are tools and technologies that have allowed employees and managers to stay connected with just a simple internet connection. Group meetings, personal calls, and allocation of tasks can all be done with these tools from anywhere in the world. These specifically designed applications have made it far easier for managers to manage their workforce from far away over the internet. 


Cloud based storage

Many of the technologies have allowed companies and businesses to store their data online to keep it safe from corruption or other such phenomena which might compromise it. This has made a loss of data an extremely rare occurrence, lessening the burden on managers and the workforce. It has also made the sharing of this data throughout the company much easier and faster, promoting interdepartmental collaboration. 

With a backup readily available and all the important data available to every employee just one click away, businesses have found their operations to be much more efficient. This allows employees to complete their tasks without wasting time in acquiring the data through traditional methods. The built-in security features of these cloud-based storages have also relieved companies of the burden of ensuring every employee practices strict safety measures. Thus, leaving the IT department more time and resources to allocate them to other pressing areas.

The techniques of workforce management are ever-changing and HR leaders will always have to evolve with the dynamic and competitive environment of the market. The adoption of HR technology to promote efficiency is only the latest trend in the long journey of achieving management perfection. However, HR technology adoption is arguably the most significant trend to come across to date as this has pushed the limits of efficiency and productivity to levels that were unimaginable mere two decades ago. Today, it is impossible for any business to survive in the market without adopting these technologies in some form or the other. The benefits of adopting HR technology are so far and wide that operating without them can be considered highly primitive.
